Weekend Project

Kevin's weekend project the last two Saturday's was a backyard regulation size horseshoe pit. He has been talking and dreaming of this pit since we signed the papers for the house in Dubai. I won't even mention the amount of time he has dedicated to the "almost as good as George Bush Senior's pit in College Station, but not quite there yet...) Which by the way is the pit that Kevin officially won the 2001 Texas A&M Intramural Horseshoe Tournament and at the same time broke GB's scoreboard. Anyway, after two trips to Home Depot to scout out the perfect sand and numerous questions from people about the nice sandpit we must be building our son (ha! sorry Josh, this is daddy's sand, not yours!) Kevin finally completed his pits and spent the day christening them. We invited both of his brothers and our friends Russ and Bethany over for the big event. The big boys spent the evening in serious competition while the ladies watched the little boys play in the water. It was a great day and now we have one more excuse to spend time outside!
This is the official attire of anyone who desires to work on a backyard horseshoe pit.

This Ain't No Kiddy Pool

We took Josh and his cousin Owen to a friends pool this afternoon. Josh LOVED it. He is a natural swimmer. The minute we put him on his stomach he started kicking his legs and moving his arms like he's been swimming a thousand times before. It was a super time and we are headed back for more fun on Monday. Thanks Mr. Scott!

Froggy Pool

Grandma Tammy bought Josh his first wading pool and he LOVES it!  These past few days we have seen temperatures in the 90's so the pool is perfect.  I only wish I could squeeze myself in there too!

Golfing

Kevin was in a golf tournament this past Friday, so Josh and I headed out to enjoy the course and eat the yummy post tournament food.  Kevin's Granny and Papa were stationed at hole 10 giving groups a 200 yard advantage (for a fee of course) so we planted ourselves there and enjoyed the day.  The weather was incredible, especially considering earlier in the week we were in the nineties and on Wednesday we had TERRIBLE storms.  This wasn't Josh's first trip to the course though.  A few weeks back some friends of ours invited us out to play.  We took Josh along and he was such a super baby.  He made it all 18 holes without a peep!  It was a great day (of course it helped that I was the queen of the chip shot!)

Finally!

Finally a new post!  It isn't that we haven't had anything post worthy since the beginning of May, actually we've been quite busy with a church BBQ, my parents visiting, Mothers Day, Six year wedding anniversary, Josh crawling, and Kevin's participation in his best childhood friends wedding.  (Yes, you read correctly, Josh is crawling! A video is soon to follow.) So what might you ask finally got me motivated enough to post... our garden.  It is done.  Well,  at least the plants are actually in the ground, which is one step closer to harvesting yummy home grown tomatoes and other healthy stuff!  It may seem extremely late to be planting vege's but according to the Farmer's Almanac we are right on schedule with the moon.  The only disappointing aspect was the fact that many of the plants we wanted were not available, so we had to buy seeds.  Who knows, they may grow, they may not.  We did however get watermelons, tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, chile peppers, zucchini squash, and cantaloupe plants.  Our seed plants were green beans, snap peas, pumpkin, spinach, butternut squash, carrots, and onions.  I am such a weirdo, but as we were leaving the nursery today I was so extremely excited!  I feel like Wang Lung in The Good Earth.  In times of prosperity and times of hardship he always held tight to his land with confidence and pride.  Imagine the feeling if these plants actually produce something!                   (Josh IS smiling here!)

A friend is a person with whom I may be sincere.  Before him I may think aloud.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
The Goldman's came from Alabama to visit this past weekend.  It has been over two years since Rebecca and I have seen each other.  It felt as though we were never apart.  She echoed the same words upon walking into our house.  The quote from Emerson couldn't have put it more perfectly.
