Okay, so today I decided to write about something I often think about but rarely talk about for fear of my ignorance showing: Politics. I've started listening to talk radio during the day for the sole purpose of having something to contribute to the dinner converstation besides, "Josh spat up five times today". Two days ago instead of the normal Rush hour, the station was playing the Congress hearing into the Roger Clemens case. They spent the entire day discussing whether or not this single man took a drug that from what I understand wasn't even illegal at the time. Let me clarify, it was banned in the National Baseball League, but it was a legal drug. Really this isn't even the reason I am writing. What got me thinking was...wow, they spent ALL day on this subject. It just seems like there are more important things facing our country. This was the beginning of many questions for me.
1) What does Congress usually do on a typical day?
2) Why doesn't the news cover the activity of Congress to the same degree on a typical day?
3) How much of my tax money went to fund this day of "work"?
4) Who is my Congressman/woman anyway? (sad huh?)
So my goal today is to find the answers to these questions. I can't plead ignorance anymore. I know there are so many Americans who are informed, but I have to think that the majority are not, and that is a scary thought.
I've added some links you may want to check out just in case this extremely thoughtful post inspired you! Hah! (Check out Stay Informed on the right hand side)
